What is BDSM/What does BDSM Mean?

Bdsm is a popular term in porn industry for there are a lot of BDSM porn videos out there.  To the best of my knowledge, it is a kind of sex practice whereby a partner dominates his/her other sexual partner. A glimpse into a BDSM porn video gives a clue to what it actually means. In some of the BDSM porn videos, you could see where a sexual partner treats the other like a sub, or a pieces of trash. This action of the dominant partner is often characterized by choking, whipping, hair-pulling, strangling slapping, face spitting, needle torture, and bondage.  Now  what does BDSM mean? Lets find out in the next paragraph.

In a clear explanation, it is a variety of often erotic practices or roleplaying involving bondage, discipline, dominance and submission, sadomasochism, and other related interpersonal dynamics. Given the wide range of practices involved in BDSM, some of which may be engaged in by people who do not consider themselves to be practising it. Inclusion in the BDSM community or subculture often is said to depend on self-identification and shared experience.  A sexual partner may decide to be unruly dominant during sex, without the consent of his or her partner. In this case, the partner being dominated may not consider his or herself as practicing BDSM. They might mistake the action of the dominant partner as nothing but action induced by sexual euphoria and excitement.

Now, let me remind you how the term came to be. BDSM was first recorded in a 1991, and was interpreted as a combination of the abbreviations B/D (Bondage and Discipline), D/s (Dominance and submission), and S/M (Sadism and Masochism). The term is now used as an all round phrase covering a wide range of activities, forms of interpersonal relationships, and distinct subcultures. In America, there exist BDSM communities. These  communities generally welcome anyone with a non-normative streak who identifies with the community; this may include cross-dressers, body modification enthusiasts, animal roleplayers, rubber fetishists, and others.

Like I pointed out above, it involves activities and relationships in sex life that are often characterized by the participants’ taking on roles that are complementary and involve inequality of power; thus, the idea of informed consent of both the partners is essential. So when the question what does BDSM means? arises you should be able to answer it clearly.

In BDSM sexual practices, the term sub, and dom are often used to emphasis the terms submissive and dominant . The terms top and bottom are also used; the top is the instigator of an action while the bottom is the receiver of the action. The two sets of terms are subtly different: for example, someone may choose to act as bottom to another person. Take for instance, by being whipped, purely recreationally, without any implication of being psychologically dominated, and submissives may be ordered to massage their dominant partners. Although the bottom carries out the action and the top receives it, they have not necessarily switched roles.
